Contemporary Day – Italian Contemporary Art is curated by AMACI – Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums and supported by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Directorate-General for the Promotion of the Export System of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).
Now in its 22nd edition, the initiative celebrates the vitality of contemporary art through a worldwide programme taking place from 5 to 10 October. The international programme will feature exhibitions, meetings, workshops and other initiatives at numerous venues abroad, further strengthening cultural dialogue and the network of relationships developed over recent years.
The theme chosen for the 2026 edition is “Geographies of Contemporaneity”, a reflection on the present as a space shaped by continuous transformations, in which territories, communities and identities are not fixed realities, but are constantly defined and redefined through relationships, exchanges and ongoing processes of transformation. It is an invitation to view the contemporary world as a geography in motion, in which art can offer tools for critical interpretation and new perspectives.
The Italian Cultural Institute of Addis Ababa is taking part in Contemporary Day with the exhibition “Way in, Way out” by Yared Olivelli, which will be open to the public until 30 October.
