Movie – Patria (2014)

A closing factory in Turin and a worker who threatens to commit suicide from the tower of the same factory, because of the loss of his job: this is the starting point for the narration of “Patria”, a film based on the homonymous book by Enrico Deaglio. Another worker from that same factory, Giorgio, and the guardian, Luca, reach Salvo on the tower to stop him from his attempt to throw himself down. It is from the top of this tower that three very different characters, but who share the same destiny, begin to retrace the last thirty years of Italian history. Through the eyes of two workers and a guardian, therefore, “Patria” offers an overview of the recent history of Italy, from the late 70s to 2010, the year in which the film is set: a story made up of games of power, crimes and massacres, of wasted opportunities and betrayed hopes.
