The Director General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alessandro De Pedys, today has visited the compound that hosts the Italian Cultural Institute and the Italian State Schools of Addis Ababa.
H.E. Ambassador Agostino Palese, Minister’s Special Envoy for the Mattei Plan for Africa, Massimo Riccardo, the diplomatic staff of the Embassy and the Principal of the Italian State School, Marina Venturella, also participated in the visit to the IIC Addis Abeba.
The Director of the Cultural Institute, Semen Kumurzhi, and his collaborators welcomed the delegation. The delegation visited the modern G. Verdi Auditorium, the library, the exhibition hall and the Italian language course classrooms, where the Director General De Pedys spoke to the new Italian-speaking Ethiopian students. The Director of IIC Addis Abeba presented the ongoing and upcoming linguistic and cultural activities, such as tonight’s concert by Maestro Marino Formenti and the exhibition by the Ethio-Italian artist Yared Olivelli. Lastly, the Director General appreciated the various murals in the compound created by the ICI with the aim of beautifying the area, giving it a modern Italian artistic imprint (in particular, the augmented reality paintings that come alive on the smartphone screen, giving life to short cheerful videos).
The visit of the Director General, Alessandro De Pedys, enhanced the intense cultural dialogue between the two countries, giving new impetus to the cultural promotion of the Institute, carried out in close collaboration with the Embassy and other Italian institutions.
