Tesfaye Gebre, an Ethiopian-naturalized-Italian singer, represents a cultural bridge between the two countries. Ever since his debut on stage at La Mascott, an Italian restaurant in Addis Ababa, Tesfaye showed great interest for Western styles of music. With his arrival in Rome in 1962, Tesfaye began a succesful career which lead him to share the stage with Italian and international artists such as Mina, Frank Sinatra, and Louis Armstrong.
The photographic retrospective retraces several phases of Tesfaye Gebre’s career, until his premature death in 1982.
The exhibition is curated by Markos Habtemichael, with the support of Tommaso Ciati.
