On the occasion of the “International Holocaust Remembrance Day”, the Italian cultural Institute in collaboration with the Embassy of Israel will be screening “Eravamo Italiani” directed by Ruggero Gabbai with English subtitles .
The documentary collects the testimonies of the Italian survivors who in the early ‘90s started recounting their experience to the authors Marcello Pezzetti and Liliana Picciotto, for the CDEC (Center for Jewish contemporary documentation, Milan) project “Archivio della Memoria / archives of the memory”.
Forma International, the producer of the three films, combined extracts taken from the three main productions about the Italian Shoah and managed to draw a complete and unique portrait of such an experience, recalling the tragic events of the racial laws, the persecution and the deportation of the Italian Jews in death camps.
The testimonies in Memoria, The Longest Journey and Fossoli highlight the Italian features of the Nazi-Fascist persecutions, always focusing on the witness and his story, which has a meaning both personal and collective.
