The Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio arrives in Addis Ababa!
On December 10th, at 6.30 pm, this renowned collection of artists from around the world will perform for the first time ever in Ethiopia at the National Theater together with the Ethiopian dancer Melaku Belay and his famous Ethiocolor band!
The Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio was founded in 2002 by artists, intellectuals and cultural operators with the desire to enhance the namesake Piazza of the Esquilino in Rome, the multiethnic district of the city par excellence. For 17 years the Orchestra has represented a unique reality that finds its raison d’être in the mix of textual and musical languages, in the firm awareness that mixing cultures produces beauty. A bet that tries to keep different continents together, with their cultures, their sounds and their history. Since 2002 to date, over 100 musicians from very different geographical areas and musical backgrounds have met to create creative and professional projects that have often constituted opportunities for social redemption.
Ethio Color is a cultural traditional band founded in 2009, consisting of Kirar (a kind of lyre), Bass Kirar, Washint (flute), Kebero (traditional drums) and Massinqo. This band, leading by the traditional dancer Melaku Belay, is the cream of the crop of cultural musicians and dancers of the country. All of them share the common priority to represent the traditional styles in an accurate, lively and new way, as well as to spread their music all over the world.
We look forward to see you in order to open with a hit the December Programme!
