“Martin Eden”, by Pietro Marcello

In the Naples of the early XX century, the young sailor Martin Eden, an individualist proletarian in an era torn apart by the birth of mass political movements, dreams of becoming a writer. Thanks to his self-taught cultural knowledge, Martin wins the love of a young bourgeois woman, but he feels he is betraying his origins and values.
Based on the omonymous novel by Jack London, from 1909, the film has been presented at the 76th edition of the Venice Film Festival, where the actor Luca Marinelli won the Coppa Volpi for the best male performance.
