Ethiopia and Italy in the XXth Century

The history of Ethiopia and Italy during the XXth century is marked by several

encounters and collisions between the two countries. Often the relations between

Ethiopia and Italy has been analyzed following a chronological partition, according to

the following schema:

1) the period of war, 1935-1936;

2) the period of occupation, 1936-1941;

3) the period of peace, 1950 onwards.

The conference aims to bring together the three periods, to analyze the relations

between the two countries with a longue durée approach. With a special focus on

topics such as Business, Culture, Diplomacy, Education, and Memory, the conference

is an attempt to reconsider the history of the relations between Ethiopia and Italy

thorough the concept of Modernity as a key concept for the history of both the

countries during the XXth century.Whit contributors from the Universities of Addis Ababa, Cagliari, Bristol, Napoli, Modena e Reggio Emilia
