In the context of the Italian Film Festival in Ethiopia, the IIC of Addis Ababa hosts the screening of the film “DANTE” by Pupi Avati, a tribute to the father of the Italian language and his life, told through the voice of Giovanni Boccaccio masterfully interpreted by an exceptional actor, Sergio Castellitto.
Synopsis
1350. After Dante’s death, Boccaccio was given the task of handing over ten gold florins to the daughter of the supreme priest as “late compensation for the injustice suffered”.
Giovanni, a great admirer of the deceased poet, welcomes the post as an honour, setting out on a journey through the places that Dante went through during his exile.
During the journey he will retrace the salient episodes of the poet’s life, from his encounter with Beatrice to his friendship with Guido Cavalcanti, from the wars between Whites and Blacks to his entry into politics as prior to the “infinite exile”. Interwoven in the plot emerge the characters of the Divine Comedy, from Paolo and Francesca to Count Ugolino, in the form of stories collected by Dante along his travels.
