Feelings along the Sidewalk

On the occasion of the XX edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic and dedicated to “Italian between words and images: graffiti, illustrations, comics”, the Italian Cultural Institute of Addis Ababa, in collaboration with the festival “Tibeb be Adebabay”, presents “Feelings along the Sidewalk”: a combination of different cultures, arts and styles.

Feelings along the Sidewalk is the result of the meeting between Italian illustrator Livio Fania and Ethiopian group “Addis Street Art”Solomon Kifle, Lielt Lemem Teferi, Temesgen Tadele, Efrata Birhanu, Gebreyesus Asmare, Saron Bogale – bringing together street art, illustration and digital graphics.

Feelings along the Sidewalk focuses on a selected group of Words and Concepts that convey the very idea we have of Culture and what this idea brings with it. For a marvel of human thought, these are universal concepts, shared by all persons and peoples, and which for this reason also represent the inner meaning of the activities of the Italian Cultural Institute, of Tibeb be Adebabay festival, as well as of all the artists involved.

In these days marked by n unprecedented pandemic, the cultural sector was led to question itself and respond with original solutions to find and rediscover its own voice in a world whose rules are necessarily changing. That’s why Feelings along the Sidewalk has been developed by the Italian Cultural Institute as one of the new possible models for making and sharing art at the time of coronavirus.

The attention to dialogue and the exchange of ideas and techniques between Italian and Ethiopian artists remain pivotal, while new spaces for sharing and enjoying the artworks are explored. Feelings along the Sidewalk bring art out from of the exhibition rooms to the outside spaces, not only on the street but also in the virtual world on internet.

From Thursday 29 October, 4.00 pm, the works will be exhibited to the public in the outdoor spaces of the Institute of Culture anas well as online, on the Tibeb be Adebabay festival website.
