FAWDA road to Essaouira

The musical group ‘Fawda’ was created in Bologna in 2011 by musicians Fabrizio Puglisi (piano and keys), Danilo Mineo (percussions) and Reda Zine (voice and guembrì) from Casablanca. Since 2017 Fawda became a quartet by including Martino Bisson on flute and electronics.
The music Fawda creates is inspired by the Moroccan Gnawa music which uses the Guembrì, a traditional three-stringed instrument which originates from a musical culture that creates a state of trance and healing. The group has been able to create music that merges tradition and innovation by fusing the Gnawa sounds, with electronics and contemporary jazz, taking it from Sun Ra to Coltrane.
